Just at first glance, you may possibly feel that this Yunomi is plain and simple. However, the artist has achieved sophistication without ostentatious garnish. In addition, the thin and lightweight porcelain enhances the good flavor of tea.

Mr. Kuramoto excels at ceramic glazing. Peony flower at the bottom inside is vividly painted with great detail in beautiful blue glaze. The atmosphere is elegant. Controlling brush strokes and shading with the Zaffer glaze are the most important techniques, which enable the print motifs vividly. The name of this Yunomi, KAMON means armorial bearing of flower in Japanese, similar to an ancestral crest, and is an auspicious symbol.

The brush strokes used to create the circles are lacking in uniformity. The starting point is relatively thick and the ending point is thin. This is a traditional Japanese paining technique also used in calligraphy and helps to create expression. In an age where most ceramics are mass-produced by machine in a factory, it is also proof of hand painting.

This Yunomi is very thin and lightweight porcelain, only 75g (2.65oz) each. It is one of the requirements of excellent Japanese porcelain and helps to create a relaxed green moment. The curve from the mouth to the base is quite stunning and beautiful. As you enjoy your green tea, you can gaze at the aspect of the curve. The curve at the mouth and the thinness also fulfill a role to enhance the tea flavor when your mouth touches the Yunomi.
