Handcrafted Teacup: 180ml (6.09fl oz) , diameter: 3.35inches (8.5cm), height: 3.35inches (8.5cm)
Sophisticated Shigaraki-Yaki
Made by Hirokazu Furutani at Furutani Pottery

TETSU means iron, and SAN means scatter. As the name expresses, you can see black dots formed when the iron content in the clay appears on the surface of the cup. This tea cup is made from clay that contains iron and is the potteries' original blend mainly collected in Shigaraki. This tea cup is made using the KOBIKI technique. KOBIKI is a technique featuring a white glaze called SHIROGESHOH which is applied to the clay after molding and then firing it. The soft and gentle texture is brought out by firing it twice.

GOHONDE, a traditional glazing technique that creates colorful patches of orange on the surface of the inside or outside, adds warmth to the atmosphere of the work. It is impossible to fully control the contrasting density of GOHONDE, so that GOHONDE is quite different in each work. Three purple colors on the base also add accent to the teacup.

At first glance, it looks simple, but the surface has lines carved out vertically called SHINOGI. This is formed by a technique called SENBORI that is included in the product name. SENBORI means carving in line. Considering the fact that it is fired twice and carved by hand, this teacup is very carefully made. It is simple yet fits wonderfully in the hand. The slightly rounded shape makes this multi-use cup comfortable to use every day.

The artisans at Furutani Pottery feel joy in their work and the pride of craftsmanship. They always keep in mind that the piece they are working on will one day be used by someone. This kind consideration of the end-user is applied to each piece they create. The atmosphere at Furutani Pottery is very nice. By using this teacup, we believe you can feel the personality of the artisans. We are certain that this Yunomi will enrich your tea time.
