The especially remarkable aspects of this tray is the wood grain beauty of KEYAKI Japanese zelkova, a type of elm tree, and its simple and natural atmosphere. The wood grain is quite beautiful, and well reflected on the brown lacquer craft.

OMOTENASHI means the cordial treatment in Japanese. It means to express one's consideration for others through gestures, behavior, and actions. It is said to have been introduced in the tea ceremony of Sen no Rikyu and the teachings of Zen. OMOTENASHI is truly a spirit and virtue unique to the Japanese people.

The wood is from the Japanese Zelkova tree, known in Japan as KEYAKI. Japanese artisans use KEYAKI for traditional wooden lacquer because the wood is strong and the grain is quite beautiful. It is the ideal surface on which to apply traditional Japanese lacquer.

This tray is coated with lacquer. Lacquer craft gains the deepness of color and shine and increases in intensity with each new layer or coat of lacquer. This tray is made from only natural wood and lacquer material grown in Japan and crafted by traditional technique passed down for many generations.

In Japan, when serving tea or food to guests, it is served on a tray. As this tray is small size, it can be used not only to carry tea for guests, but also to enjoy matcha or tea and snacks by yourself.
