Traditional Tokoname Yaki

This Kyusu has a unique texture, distinctive form and simple white color. The mild white color and cute mountain shape are wonderfully matched and bring an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere. The stylish shape of the Kyusu inherits the qualities of a traditional Kyusu, yet matches perfectly with modern interiors. This unique Kyusu teapot, created by a master potter, is sure to fascinate you.
SHIROTSUCHI refers to the white color of this Kyusu. Usually, Kyusu are SHUDEI red, brown or gray, but this Kyusu has a mild white color. This color was developed to show the beautiful green color of tea. Its whiteness,
developed after about two years of trial and error, is unmatched by any other Kyusu. The mountain shape of the Kyusu and its characteristic white color harmonize beautifully to create a sense of gentleness and charm.
This Kyusu has a very distinctive shape, as shown in the photo. It is called FUJIGATA, meaning Mt. Fuji in Japanese, and is shaped like a mountain. This unique shape is thought to help brew delicious green tea because there is enough space for the tea leaves to fully open.
It is made with great care, as it requires a very high level of skill in its creation using a ROKURO (potter's wheel) and takes a long time to dry. Although the shape is traditional, it harmonizes with the simple white color
and exudes gentleness and style. The spout of the teapot is rounded and slightly larger, making it easy and practical to pour.
This Kyusu has a ceramic fine mesh filter, not removable mesh filter basket. Many porcelain Kyusu have a small mesh filter basket, so unfortunately the tea leaves can't fully open and therefore the flavor of the brewed tea will be weak. In many cases, ceramic mesh is not fine but rough like Dobin, which is not suitable for brewing Sencha Fukamushi and Konacha. However, ceramic mesh of this Kyusu is fine, so that you can brew all kinds of Japanese tea, including Sencha Fukamushi and Konacha. (In the unlikely event that you would like to filter out the small specks of Sencha Fukamushi or Konacha, we recommend you use a tea strainer.)
This is the most popular and convenient size, perfect for 1 - 3 people.

(Please note that orange spots may possibly appear inside the bottom or back side of the Kyusu. They are called GOHONDE and are caused by the iron content in the clay. It is also a characteristic of this white clay. This is not a defect.)
