Traditional Tokoname Yaki
Made by Tokuta Fujita
Kyusu has a unique texture, distinctive form and simple black color. The matte black color and simple cylindrical form are a perfect match, bringing a simple yet sophisticated atmosphere. The stylish shape of the Kyusu inherits the qualities of a traditional Kyusu, yet matches perfectly with modern interiors. This unique Kyusu teapot, created by a master potter, is sure to fascinate you.
KUROTSUCHI refers to the black color of this teapot. Normally, most teapots are SHUDEI red or brown, but this teapot has a simple matte black color (grayish black). This color is produced by sealing the kiln at high temperatures and incomplete combustion with little oxygen. The carbon generated from the fuel in the kiln is absorbed by the Kyusu, resulting in a black color.
The spout of the teapot is rounded and slightly larger, making it easy and practical to pour.
This Kyusu has a ceramic fine mesh filter, not removable mesh filter basket. Many porcelain Kyusu have a small mesh filter basket, so unfortunately the tea leaves can't fully open and therefore the flavor of the brewed tea will be weak. In many cases, ceramic mesh is not fine but rough like Dobin, which is not suitable for brewing Sencha Fukamushi and Konacha. However, ceramic mesh of this Kyusu is fine, so that you can brew all kinds of Japanese tea, including Sencha Fukamushi and Konacha. (In the unlikely event that you would like to filter out the small specks of Sencha Fukamushi or Konacha, we recommend you use a tea strainer.)
This is the most popular and convenient size, perfect for 1 - 3 people.
