Sophisticated Kyo-Yaki (Kyoto Style)

This Hohin set is very unique among Kyo-yaki style tea ware, especially its method of painting. One of the points is the use of white clay glaze. This Hohin set provides us with warmth from its form, and its attractive paintwork strangely relaxes both body and mind.

HAGI means Japanese bush clover, and GASANE means piling up in Japanese. HAGI is an autumn wild flower, enjoyed by tea masters as one of the seven autumn flowers for some generations. Numerous Japanese bush clovers are depicted in white color, trailing in the autumn breeze.

This set has several unique characteristics. Normally in Kyo-yaki style, white clay glaze can be used to make the earthenware white. On the contrary, HAGI Japanese bush clover is expressed on the dark brown color earthenware by the use of white glaze. This is very unusual in Kyo-yaki style, but white color bush clover beautifully sets off the dark brown earthenware. The pattern style is called ICCHIN MORI in Japanese. Its technique is to use small dots to draw instead of painting solid lines. Refined and thick lines and dots express the Japanese bush clover in a rhythmic and vivid manner. Linear marks made by brush are implemented on the inside of the tea ware. This traditional technique, called HAKEME, evokes an image of the autumn breeze blowing in the fields.

The form also adds beauty to this set. Part of the edge of the hot water cooler is made dimpled, accentuating the simple form. The small size of the teacup fits comfortably in the hand and is ideal for drinking high-grade tea.

This set will lead you into the full bloom of autumn flowers. It will surely bring warmth and relaxation to your days.
