Handcrafted Yunomi: 200ml (6.76fl oz), diameter: 2.76inches (7cm) height: 3.54inches (9cm)
Sophisticated Kyo-Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Tohan Dobuchi at Tohan Kiln
This Yunomi has a streamlined form with large flowers boldly and delicately painted, and is very graceful.
SOME means to add color, and HANA means a flower. As the name suggests, this is a teacup with BOTAN flowers on it. BOTAN means peony flower in Japanese. The peony flower was well-loved in ancient Japan. For example, women wore Kimono with peony flower patterns, and some people used the peony as their family crest. Tohan gorgeously expresses the elegant scene of BOTAN peony flower. The flowers and plants are vividly painted by zaffer glaze in Tohan's specific painting style, which always fascinates viewers.
This Yunomi, painted in a single color like an ink painting, is simple, but the depiction of the BOTAN peony flower is delicate. While a large peony is depicted on the outside, only a single bud is depicted on the inside, giving the impression of a gorgeous flower in full bloom by the contrast between the two. It is the skill of a craftsman of many years that can express such a lively appearance with only the use of shades of paint and brushwork.
Another point of interest is its unique form. The rim is beautifully flared, the middle of the side is full, and the bottom is tucked. The shape of this Yunomi, which looks like an open flower, seems to give life to the simple design of the cup.
The color of Japanese green tea will enliven this teacup even more, once the tea is poured into the cup. We are certain that this Yunomi will enrich your tea time.
