This is the best cha-wan I have drabk matcha from so far. First, it has a very special, almost mysterious touch: not rough but not smooth either. Second, the cha-wan's Sho-Men ("front-side") is very subtle and discreet. In addition, the colours and even the indentations which the artist/potter made before putting it into the oven keep changing with the light of day in an unpredictable way. It is combines brown, yellow and black and all the shades in between - I think this may also relate to the name the artist gave it: Sabi Yo Hen. Lastly, in case you are at all familiar with, or just interested in, the tea ceremony (Sa-Doo) then this cha-wan is perfect for preparing tea for guests because it is robust and has a wide base for whisking, but does not attract attention to itself. The photo I have attached does not do it justice. I am grateful to Hibiki-An for making such a unique item available at an affordable price. Honto ni arigato gozaimasu! |
