Handcrafted Kyusu
Dimension: 360ml (12.67fl oz)
Traditional Tokoname Yaki
Made by Futoshi Sawada
Mr. Sawada was born in 1951. His style is precise, delicate and artful.
This Kyusu is very thin and lightweight. The weight is 6.2oz (175g), which is about half the weight of most Kyusu of the same size. It requires a precise woodturning technique, therefore these special Kyusu are created only by the hand of skilled artisans and cannot be mass produced. Many craftsmen are not willing to make thin Kyusu because of the time and effort involved. However, it is traditionally said in the Tokoname region that the thinner and more lightweight, the higher the grade of Kyusu. The highest grade Kyusu are extremely thin and lightweight.
The handle is designed to fit comfortably in your hand and enable you to pour easily. This Kyusu has a high-wrought and decorative surface which is made by woodturning and a paddle and is one of the unique features of Tokoname Yaki. It also requires a precise woodturning technique.
You will certainly look forward to brewing tea in this artful Kyusu, which has been specially designed with the user in mind.
This is the most popular and convenient size, 360ml, perfect for 1 - 3 people.
