HANA TSUDOI means flower gathering in Japanese. There are twelve teacups in this series, and different flowers from season to season are decorated on each cup. HANA TSUDOI teacup is one of the most popular in the advanced line at Tohan Kiln.

(AJISAI)
AJISAI means hydrangea in Japanese. It is said that AJISAI hydrangea drives away the unpleasant mood which is common in the TSUYU rainy season. The flowers and leaves are vividly painted by zaffer glaze in Tohan's specific painting style, which always fascinates viewers.

White and light blue color of AJISAI hydrangea is beautifully reflected on the white glaze color teacup elegantly and calmly. Hydrangea colored in light blue elegantly blooms in the center of the Yunomi, and the strong blue color is decorated on the petals and around the stamen to express the delicate color of the flowers. The contrast between the white and light blue colors also captures the impressive beauty of the AJISAI hydrangea.

The inside and outside of this Yunomi are glazed white and finished with brush lines, which create a fine atmosphere. One can see the natural color of the clay at the rim and base, which modestly accents the beautiful white glaze. Green and light blue color glazes coat the outer surface of the white brush glaze, enhancing the graceful atmosphere of the AJISAI hydrangea. The white and light blue glazes coated outside the teacup are also used to express the color of the hydrangea petals.

(FUYOH)
FUYOH is one type of lotus flower. FUYOH lotus flower has been used as a symbol of beauty, often represented as a beautiful woman in Japanese literature and culture since ancient times.

One of the focal points of the FUYOH flower is its design. Each petal of the FUYOH flower is painted with a soft touch, creating a gentle atmosphere. The gradation of pink color and the golden color, which is used on the petals, makes FUYOH more attractive. The deep pink color in the center of the FUYOH flower gradually turns to white toward the edge of the petals. Its decoration makes us feel as if FUYOH rustles in the spring breeze.

The pottery wheel marks on the outside not only create a sense of rhythm but also make the teacup convenient to hold in your hands without slipping.

Tohan Dobuchi

Mr. Tohan Dobuchi was born in 1980 and is the fourth Tohan. The first Tohan Dobuchi opened Tohan Kiln in 1922. The current Tohan Dobuchi succeeded the fourth in 2011. Tohan Kiln's unique works, sustained by high level pottery and drawing techniques and various original elegant glazes in over three hundred colors, are highly appreciated and viewed with awe.
The third Tohan's art was full of creative energy, as he was naturally inquisitive and enjoyed exploring new techniques and designs every day. He studied glaze in Germany, so his works stood out from other Kyo Yaki. In the works of Tohan, they are incorporated with designs of flowering grasses that are found in nature. The third Tohan developed Tohan’s original world of glaze, color and design.
The fourth Tohan has been developing new styles like HANA KESSHO crystal glaze lines. And these days, Tohan Kiln also creates beautiful lamps, tables and other interior designs. Works receive a high evaluation from not only those within the field of ceramics but also from interior designers and furniture designers in Japan and around the world.
