SOHSHUN means early spring and EKUBO means dimple in Japanese. The glaze creates a unified elegant, uplifting and warm atmosphere. The harmony and contrast of natural clay and the noble white glaze are very unique.
The rim of this Matcha bowl is curved and the middle is gently and slightly convex. The KOHDAI base is a little high. The front side of the rim is dimpled, which is called EKUBO technique. The unique curves and the dimple characterize the whole form, and the height of the KODAI base brings together the elegantly endearing atmosphere of this Matcha bowl.
White color glaze called SHIRAHAGI YU is used in two ways, both thin and thick. The glazing, which requires delicate and careful techniques, creates an elegant, uplifting and warm atmosphere. The entire inside and front of the outside is glazed thinly. The thin glaze is spattered on the outside surface, which creates an uplifting feeling like early spring. The artisan creates the line on the inside by wiping the glaze with the ball of his finger. The area around the line is gradated, which looks unique and interesting. The glaze is coated thickly on the front of the outside and around the rim area. The orange color glaze is called HIIRO, which evokes a gentle warmth like early spring.
This Matcha bowl is lightweight, which helps not only to give it a charming impression, but also makes it easy to use. The curve toward the inside at the rim also helps with whisking Matcha easily. The artisan Eizan Okuda has carefully considered how best to make this bowl comfortable to hold and easy to use.
Eizan Okuda is a ceramic artist and a tea master, so he focuses not only on the appearance of each piece but also its functionality. When designing this piece, he considered the balance of color between the inside of the bowl and the green Matcha that will one day grace its surface. You can feel his attention to detail. Its form and size fit perfectly into both hands when drinking Matcha.
To consider the time and care that went into creating this Matcha bowl, it is set at quite a reasonable price. The appearance of this bowl will deepen in atmosphere over time. Please enjoy your favorite Matcha in this elegantly endearing bowl, which will enrich your green moment!
