KINKAKUJI means the KINKAKUJI temple, which is a World Heritage Site in Kyoto, Japan. YUKI GESHIKI means snow-covered landscape in Japanese. This impressive Matcha bowl, features the snow-covered KINKAKUJI temple.
The snow-covered landscape of the KINKAKUJI temple is one of the most famous compositions featuring this well-known and beloved temple. However, Kyoto rarely experiences snowfall. So, it is quite a treasured composition, which you can seldom see in real life. The snow-covered landscape is delicately and elegantly drawn. You can look at it forever and never get tired of it.
KINKAKUJI temple is carefully drawn using gold pigment. On the surface of the pond in front of it, the shape of the temple faintly appears. On both sides of the composition, pine trees stand gently. The snow falls quietly, and absorbs all sound. The snow on the roof of the temple and on the pine branches, and the snowflakes dancing leisurely in the air are carefully painted again and again to create three-dimensional layers. It gives this Matcha bowl a sense of dimensionality and depth.
Colorful patches of orange, called GOHONDE, are a traditional technique that add warmth to the atmosphere of the work. Iron constituents contained in the clay turn orange during reduction firing in the kiln. The reduction firing of iron-rich clay is a delicate process that is highly and easily affected by the conditions of temperature in the kiln, firing time of each temperature, cool down time and so on. It is said that it is impossible to fully control the contrasting density of GOHONDE even for the proficient artisan, so that GOHONDE is a little different in each work. It is also said that it is a part of WABI SABI which pattern GOHONDE you encounter.
You are able to feel the great techniques of the artisan from this Matcha bowl. This Matcha bowl is quite brilliant. Considering the efforts and techniques of the artisan, this Matcha bowl is set at an amazingly reasonable price. Enjoy your favorite Matcha in this beautiful bowl, and you will feel as though you have been transported to the snow-covered landscape of KINKAKUJI temple.
