MOEGI is a light yellowish green color, which represents fresh green leaves sprouting in spring. The glaze creates an elegant, uplifting and warm atmosphere. Upon gazing at this Matcha bowl, you may feel as though new sprouts are emerging from the earth, and a gentle breeze is blowing in early spring.

This glaze, made from barrel ash, is quite originally developed by the artisan, Hozan Tanii and named MOEGI YU glaze. Barrel ash glaze creates unique colors because the barrel hook, made of iron, delicately affects the ash glaze. As a result, barrel ash glaze colors are completely unique and no two are exactly the same.

You can enjoy the fine gradation of yellowish green, brownish green, gray, AME IRO caramel brown and so on. The harmony of colors evokes a feeling of new sprouts emerging from the earth, and a gentle breeze blowing in early spring.

The rim of this Matcha bowl is gently curved outward. It accentuates the flavor. You will note that the rim is oval or triangular instead of a perfect circle. It evokes gentleness and warmth. The rim is opened a little wider and the height is somewhat lower than a typical form, giving the impression of light and warmth.

The KOHDAI base, which is created quite carefully, is a little high and opened toward the outside. It creates stableness and tightens the whole form. This Matcha bowl is lightweight, which helps not only to give it a charming impression, but also makes it easy to use. The curve at the rim also helps with whisking Matcha easily.

ROKUROME tracks are on the surface of the outside and inside. They change the flow of the glaze and create a unique atmosphere. Their appearance also adds to the ambiance of a gentle breeze in early spring. The artisan, Hozan Tanii has a perfect command of hundreds of glazes including his original glazes. And his delicately designed shapes are beautiful. His works are considered to be quite unique, even among pottery industry experts in Japan. To consider the time and care that went into creating this Matcha bowl, it is set at quite a reasonable price. The appearance of this bowl will deepen in atmosphere over time. Please enjoy your favorite Matcha in this elegantly endearing bowl, which will enrich your green moment!

Hozan Tanii

Hozan Tanii was born in 1953. He graduated from the technical art department at Osaka Art University. And he took over the third generation of Tanikan Kiln in 1983. He is one of only a few artisans who explore the infinite beauty, depth, and range of clay itself, in contrast to the many artisans who explore glaze colors or printing. He has and makes full use of fourteen kinds of kilns and several tens of thousands kinds of glaze in order to bring out the boundlessness possibility of earthen clay. He frequently goes to the mountain in Shigaraki where he lives and collects clay. He has continued to experiment using the clay he finds and tries to bring out the infinite possibility of clay for over 30 years. All of his arts are well-planned and elaborated in various view points, beauty, function, usefulness, and so on. In addition, made from sustainable natural elements, his creations work symbiotically with the earth's ecosystem.
