Traditional Kyo-Yaki (Kyoto Style)
Made by Tohraku Morisato

SHISUI MON Yunomi is beautiful and sublime by well-balanced shape and graceful decoration. These Yunomi are created by a technique called MISHIMA. Before shaped clay is dried, patterns are marked by stamp stick carved with flowers or another similar design. It is one of the traditional techniques of Kyo Yaki.

Tohraku stamps each of his works by hand, one at a time, though many others are stamped by machine. And he uses only his own stamp sticks that he has personally designed and created. There are only a few artisans in Japan who make stamp sticks because it requires great skill. So, his patterns are much more precise in detail and unique. Tohraku creatively uses several hundred kinds of stamp sticks. In this way, the atmosphere of his works becomes amazingly delicate and expressive.

The name SHISUI means purple and green, and MON means pattern in Japanese. These lovely purple and green tones add depth of expression. The purple tone is brought not by glaze but by the nature of the clay, which is very rare and mined in Nara Prefecture. Combined with the white glaze, the clay takes on this unique purple tone. The large, boldly cut ovals are covered with a green glaze, giving the cup a somewhat Western design.

INKA flower stamps, which are colored in white, are decorated both inside and outside the cup. Not only are there many stamps, but they are combined to form an even larger flower, creating the overall design of the bowl. The designs created from the numerous stamps and the striking colors are in perfect harmony on this Yunomi.

The form is unique and refined. The curve of the rim and the silhouette from side to bottom are very delicate and elegant. Along with its design, the teacup has a Western feel.

We are certain that these elegant SHISUI MON will enrich your green moment.
