This tea is a wonderful Gyokuro for the price. Upon opening the package, the fragrance emerges fresh, clean, astringent, with a little grassiness. The leaves are dark green and beautiful. The first steeping (at approximately 150 degrees Fahrenheit) produces a resplendent and delicious tea. I steep mine at least three times more, with the last two at a higher 160 degrees. The very last glass is weak, but still has a nice and pleasing flavor that tempts me to begin again with a fresh serving. I have not yet tried the higher grades of this tea that are available from Hibiki-An -- and I plan on doing so for the purposes of comparison (and sheer enjoyment) -- but this Gyokuro is highly superior to anything that I have purchased at local retail in terms of quality, freshness, and pure enjoyment. |
