I was really blown away by this premium grade gyokuro karigane. Just like the dry leaf fragrance, it brews into a pronounced, perfectly balanced citrusy-nutty flavor. Its sweet nuttiness actually reminds me of anko, enveloped by a tangerine-like brightness. The leaves themselves are stunning, with the contrast between dark green and pale yellow. It seems like karigane is easier to brew well, because the stems aren’t as sensitive to heat. I like drinking this one as a Sunday evening treat. (8g/140ml/180F: 15s, flash, flash, 20s, 40s.)  |
