The Gyokuro Pinnacle tea from Hibiki-an is not just a beverage, it is an occasion. The mellow grassy aroma beckons to a sip while encouraging a pause to soak it in. Then the first sip is rewarded by a smooth but deep, sweet taste that calms the soul. The tea seems particularly sensitive to water temperature and I must listen carefully to the singing of the water. If I allow myself to be distracted, the leaves will not yield all their gifts. But, being present to the moment of preparation is fully rewarded. Thus prepared, I experience greatness in smallness and, clarity of mind. I highly recommend this noble tea as a divine gift. Dry, brittle tea leaves, Will anything come of you? Simple hot water! |
