Review Last year, 2014, was first time I tried this special version of hojicha. It was absolutely stunning. Best hojicha by far, in my opinion, and I've been drinking it for 30 years--starting when I lived in Japan. Not all teas labeled "hoji" actually taste like the "hoji" I'm looking for--so I have narrowed down my sources to NYC-based Ito-En's Karigane, and this variety from Hibiki-an.

I definitely brew it much longer than they recommend, and use cooler water (185 F, steep 2 Tablespoons in 12 oz. water for 5 minutes). Makes a nice robust cup, and the second--sometimes third--brew from same leaves is almost as tasty.

Thank you, Hibiki-an, for releasing this stupendous, though short-seasoned, hojicha!
